RedPoint Publications Nominated for Western and National Magazine Awards

May 03, 2013 – RedPoint Media & Marketing Solutions was honoured yesterday to learn two of its publications, up! magazine and Avenue Calgary, are finalists for both Western and National Magazine Awards.
up! magazine, the in-flight magazine of WestJet Airlines, is a finalist in the Regular Column or Department category for the widely read column By the Seat of My Pants, written by Mike Fisher. “As we all know, humour is highly subjective, so it’s great to discover that other judges find Mike’s bon mots worthy of a chuckle and a serious nod,” said up! Editor Deb Cummings. “This nomination is wonderful recognition of the compelling travel writing found in our publication.”
Avenue Calgary magazine was honoured with three nominations in the Western Magazine Awards: Best Photographic Feature or Series for “An Uncommon Empire” by Colin Way; Best Illustration or Illustration Feature for “The Unbearable Lightness of Late-Night Dining” by Victor Ngai; and Best Art Direction for the “Last Supper” cover (March 2012) by Anders Knudsen and Erin Burns.
“It’s great to see hard work recognized, and it pushes us to continually think of new innovative ways to engage with our audience,” said Knudsen, RedPoint’s Creative Director and Head of Operations.
Avenue Calgary was also a finalist in the National Magazine Awards Best Essay category for “Precious Cargo” by Craig Davidson.

Winners for both awards will be announced in June, 2013.
