Today, RedPoint Media Group, publisher of Avenue magazine as well as many other award-winning print and digital publications, announced that it has acquired Frog Media, publisher of airdrielife magazine and creator of the Amazing Airdrie Women awards.
“Like Avenue magazine in Calgary, airdrielife magazine is a long-standing publication in Airdrie that provides an essential connection point for the community,” says Roger Jewett, CEO of RedPoint Media Group. “We look forward to working with airdrielife’s talented team, growing the business and continuing the tradition of producing excellent work and promoting this region, its people and businesses.”
Established more than two decades ago, airdrielife is a quarterly city lifestyle magazine that celebrates the good life in Airdrie, one of the fastest growing cities in Alberta. With a circulation of 13,000 copies per issue and an active website and newsletter program as well as being hosts of the annual Awesome Airdrie Kids and Amazing Airdrie Women awards, airdrielife connects and highlights the people and places in this unique southern Alberta city. RedPoint plans to build on airdrielife’s legacy of quality content and trusted storytelling that has been created since the magazine started in 2004.
“Selling my business wasn’t a simple task,” says Sherry Shaw-Froggat, founding publisher of airdrielife. “It meant finding a new owner who understood the value of print media, the role airdrielife has played in Airdrie, and what it means to continue to honour our legacy and traditions. I have watched RedPoint, and especially Käthe redefine the role magazines play in our society. I am confident I have made the best choice possible for the future of airdrielife.”
“Locally owned and operated media is necessary for a successful city,” says Käthe Lemon, President and Co-owner of RedPoint Media Group. “Storytelling is how we know who we are as a community, how we know what’s going on and who’s doing it. A city isn’t just a collection of buildings and roads — it’s a collection of people brought together by shared experiences in a shared space. At RedPoint we work to help share the stories of people and places, businesses and events to help build this region into an even better place that we can all be part of. Through projects like airdrielife’s Amazing Airdrie Women we celebrate what the city is, and importantly, what it can become.”
This purchase is also a demonstration of RedPoint’s belief in the future of print and human-centred storytelling. Print is the most trusted and remembered medium, which we believe makes it the best place to invest now when there is an erosion of trust in digital platforms and a coming tsunami of untrusted content created by AI.
