Avenue Calgary names 2014’s best neighbourhoods

CALGARY, July 31, 2014 — For the fifth year in a row, Avenue has asked Calgarians what makes a neighbourhood great. And they have answered. The result is the August edition of Avenue magazine — the annual Best Neighbourhoods issue.

The issue lists this year’s 50 best places to live in Calgary, according to the results of our extensive online survey. The Best Neighbourhoods Survey collects data from a range of Calgarians, asking what traits they value most when selecting a community, including amenities, affordability, walkability, crime rates, commute times and even friendliness of neighbours.

When all the numbers and input were analyzed, the northwest community of Arbour Lake ranked No. 1 for the second year in a row.

“This year’s Best Neighbourhoods results showed us that Calgarians are benefiting from great neighbourhoods across a variety of lifestyles,” says Käthe Lemon, editor-in-chief of Avenue magazine.

“There are great places to live in the newer suburbs, established suburbs and the inner city. Calgarians continue to prioritize recreational opportunities, walkability and access to amenities like grocery stores and drug stores. These things are now available in an increasingly wide range of neighbourhoods. It’s a great time to live in Calgary — which is great news not only for Calgarians, but for all the new people coming to the city.”

Rounding off the top three neighbourhoods are the Beltline at No. 2 and Brentwood at No. 3. Available on stands throughout the city on Aug. 1, Avenue magazine lists at least one great thing about each of the Top 50 neighbourhoods in the city.
